Today is National Pig Day!
“That’s some pig!” – Charlotte, Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.
This holiday started by a North Carolina woman is to celebrate the pig and its little unknown intellectual side… and not to gorge ourselves on pig products.
According to LA Times Blog, “Mary Lynne Rave, a North Carolina woman who started National Pig Day with her sister Ellen Stanley of Texas, once explained that the idea behind the holiday was “to accord to the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.”
LA Times even went as far as posting a YouTube video of a pig honking horns.
Do you have any hidden talents no one really knows about? Well today, in honor of the pig, let your talents shine.
Head over to our Facebook Page and post below this story about what your hidden talent is.
Tomorrow: National Old Stuff Day!
Today is National Tortilla Chip Day.
Grab some chips and whatever kind of dip you want… It’s time to celebrate!
Pause and grab your snack before reading on or pause for your grub and dive in:
Often times we take for granted what is in our every day lives. How does stuff come into our lives? Take for example… this blog. What had to happen for you to be able to read this blog? Most likely you are reading on some sort of electronic device. What had to happen for whatever device you are using to get to you. Think of all of the steps it took from the conception of an idea to this very moment. A LOT had to happen.
Similarly, how did a tortilla chip come to be and eventually earn today’s namesake? Well, it is quite a story. According to The Huffington Post, “Rebecca Webb Carranza is credited with founding the tortilla chip. The California resident, who passed away in 2006 at 98 years old, fried rejected tortillas from her tortilla factory to make tortilla chips.”
Way to be creative and thrifty. Think of how the world would change if we all had this frame of mind. Perhaps, before you throw something out next time… see if there could possibly be another use for it before it becomes trash. Could it be recycled? Possibilities…
One tortilla company can also give us a life lesson: Stop and pay attention to the details. Check out the Tostitos link through Frito Lay. Did you ever notice that in the logo there are two people with chips and there is a bowl of dip between them on the i? Look for the details. Want to completely look at a couple of company logos in a new way moving forward? Check out this Yahoo article. FedEx never looked the same once I saw the arrow. It is also suspected that there is a spoon in the bottom of the e as well. Not sure what that means.
Finally, did you know that tortilla chips are also helpful with constipation. Full circle friends – made from waste and helps your waste.
Whether you cheers with a chip, start thinking about how things are in your life, start looking for details or simply re-think your waste… have an amazing day!
Choose your moment. Choose your life.
Tomorrow: National Chili Day.
