Today is Pepper Pot Day.
When I first saw that it was Pepper Pot Day I thought it was a day to celebrate growing pepper’s in a pot. Little did I know that there is so much more history to this day.
According to AOL, “They call it ‘the soup that won the war.’
That’s because legend has it that on Dec. 29, 1777, with the Continental Army exhausted and hungry from fighting through an exceptionally harsh winter at Valley Forge, Gen. George Washington turned to his army’s chef, Christopher Ludwick, for a meal to boost morale and warm the troops.
Ludwick gathered some tripe (I had to look it up and it means stomach liner, usually from an ox), meat and peppercorn, as well as other seasonings and ingredients, to create the first incarnation of ‘pepper pot soup.’ The hearty meal rallied the Continental troops, and, of course, the rest is Revolutionary War history.”
Today, in honor of this day, let’s fill up and go out and fight for what is right! Perhaps the is knowledge that you can go share. Perhaps you fill up on water before taking a run. Either way… get what you need and then go forth in life winning!
Happy 30th to Ben!
Tomorrow: Festival Of Enormous Changes At The Last Minute.
