National Something On a Stick Day.

Today is National Something On a Stick Day.
Whatever you want on a stick… go for it, today is the day.
Watch this news clip which is all about things on a stick.
But why would we put food on a stick?  I think it all goes back to portability and carrying food around fairs.
So how, you might ask, can I connect this to your life?  What are some ways you can improve the processes you do now.  Perhaps adding a stick to it might not work, but spend today looking at the way you do things and how you can improve them.  Have you been wanting to write a book for years?  Maybe today is when you start figuring out how.  Research, plan, outline, block time to write… take the baby steps to get you there.  Let’s add a little improvement (or a stick) to help you out in life.
Have a great day!  And in honor of the picture above… Cheers!
Tomorrow: Smoke and Mirrors Day.

National Panic Day.

Today is National Panic Day.
Now that you know… take all of your stress and let it go.
In order to help you not panic, I will make a nice little mnemonic device for you.
RELAX!
R – Re-Align – Re-align your view.  If you are stressed, maybe shift the thought to something else.  Such as, “I have a lot to do, but it is nice I have things to do and people need/want me to do these things.”
E – Evaluate – Evaluate what brought you to this panicked point.  Are there specific things which make you stressed or panicked.  Gaining knowledge and acknowledging stressors in a great step.
L – Look – Look at other options you have.  Being stressed is a choice, so choose not to be stressed.  Maybe look at the option of delegating or eliminating unnecessary things (and/or people) that might cause stress.
Allow – Allow change to happen.  Choose to be non-stressed and really believe and act on it.  People will notice a change and your stressed life might even rub off on them.
Xerox – That’s right… as in copy. Copy this process whenever a stressor or panic enters your world.
Re-Align. Evaluate. Look. Allow.  Xerox.
Word.
Tomorrow: Middle Name Pride Day.

Alexander Graham Bell Day.

Today is Alexander Graham Bell Day.
“Ahoy!”
If your reading this on your smart phone, you have Mr. Graham to thank.
To learn a little more about today I found some interesting facts at theultimateholidaysite.com:
“On this day in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell patented the telephone. His marvelous invention would come to revolutionize the communication industry and forever spare us from certain awkward face-to-face conversations. Originally, Bell suggested we all say ‘ahoy’ when answering the phone, but then Thomas Edison totally ruined everything by changing it to ‘hello.’ So today in honor of Bell, when you pick up the phone let out a hearty ‘ahoy!'”
Besides the life-altering telephone, we can also pull some life lessons from Alexander.  Here are 5
Life Lesson 1 – Always be developing.
“A man, as a general rule, owes very little to what he is born with – a man is what he makes of himself.” – Alexander Graham Bell.
Life Lesson 2 – Always have a plan.
“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” – Alexander Graham Bell.
Life Lesson 3 – Always look for the opportunity.
“Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open.” – Alexander Graham Bell.
Life Lesson 4 – Always build on what you learned yesterday and use it today.
“The most successful men in the end are those whose success is the result of steady accretion.” – Alexander Graham Bell.
Life Lesson 5 – Always single task.
“Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus. ” – Alexander Graham Bell.
Tomorrow: Popcorn Lovers Day.

Ditch New Years Resolutions Day!

20120117-151405.jpg

Today is Ditch New Years Resolutions Day!

You might think this holiday is in conflict with January 12’s holiday (Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution Day), but it is not. In fact, I encourage you to move forward with the ground work we outlined that day. We need to move forward with goals and leave the connotative-driven resolutions to past years.

Let’s distinguish between a resolution and a goal.

Resolution: “the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.” (dictionary.com)

Goal: “the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end.” (dictionary.com)

Resolution is the process and the goal is the end. My charge is to combine the two, but also add some pre-development strategies and celebrate the results when they happen.

YOU get to decide how you want your life to be… so, why not set up some GOALS and open the door to the life you really want.

Remember.

Gurl

Remember...

Today is Shopping Reminder Day.

This is a day all about planning. Do you have your list? Have you checked your list? Twice? ‘Tis the season for giving… But, are you giving to just give, or are you giving with mean? Today is not the only day to think about this.

What do you do everyday to give freely?

Be yourself, be real, and give!

Tomorrow: Pins and Needles Day.

Have a little mischief in your life!

On stairs

Think about it.

Tonight is Mischief Night!

According to holidayinsights.com, Mischief Night is, “an evening when people traditionally participated in harmless (please) mischief. We stress harmless or innocent mischief. Other forms of mischief can lead to big trouble. Even seemingly harmless mischief can be the source of problems.

This night is discouraged by law enforcement organizations. The mischief is sometimes less than funny, and can even lead to vandalism or destructive.

Important: We neither encourage, nor endorse participation in this day. Why risk getting in trouble??

Historically, some common forms of mischief on this has included:

  • Soaping windows
  • Egging houses and cars
  • Tossing a few rotten tomatoes
  • Toilet papering house trees, etc.
  • Knocking on doors, then running away”

However, why not have a little mischief in our own personal lives?  Is there something you have been wanting to do in your life, but have not?  Live a little, if only tonight, and think of how your life would be if you made some changes you wanted to.  It may not be easy and you need to way the pros and cons, but thinking and doing are to separate things.  So, maybe do that ever important step in between and start doing some planning.  If it is something you know you want to do… how about outline the steps backwards?  Start at the end goal.  What did you do right before the goal became true?  What happened before that?  The step before that? The step that happened in order for that step to be taken and so on until you get to the very first step.

If we all stuck with the status quo, life would never be exciting and as a society we would not be where we are today.  So, be a little mischievous in your life and take the first step.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

Tomorrow: It’s Halloween!
