Ditch New Years Resolutions Day!

Today is Ditch New Years Resolutions Day!

You might think this holiday is in conflict with January 12’s holiday (Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution Day), but it is not. In fact, I encourage you to move forward with the ground work we outlined that day. We need to move forward with goals and leave the connotative-driven resolutions to past years.

Let’s distinguish between a resolution and a goal.

Resolution: “the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.” (dictionary.com)

Goal: “the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim; end.” (dictionary.com)

Resolution is the process and the goal is the end. My charge is to combine the two, but also add some pre-development strategies and celebrate the results when they happen.

YOU get to decide how you want your life to be… so, why not set up some GOALS and open the door to the life you really want.

Tomorrow: Thesaurus and Winnie the Pooh Day.

Stick To Your New Years Resolution Day.

Goals

Figure it out...

Today is Stick To Your New Years Resolution Day.

Did you make a resolution for 2012?  Have you kept to it?  Well, if you haven’t, today might be a good start.  If you have made a resolution/s, today is the day of encouragement to keep you on track.

However, let’s look at resolutions in a new light.  What if we called resolutions… goals?  Would this stop some limiting beliefs associated with resolutions?  Perhaps.  So, let’s look at goal setting.

I’d like to introduce you to a concept I call Reflective Goal Success.  This concept will allow you to analyze a goal and figure out how to get there.

Here are the steps:

1. What is your goal?

2. How do you know your goal will be complete?

3.  Let’s start at the end.  What does your life look like now that you have completed your goal?

4. What was the last thing you had to do before your goal was complete?

5.  What had to happen before that step?

6. And before that?

7.  Keep working backwards until you feel you have written down all tasks leading up to your end goal.

8.  Now that you have all the tasks necessary to get to your goal, how can you begin today?

9.  What are the steps you can take this week to get closer to your goal?

10.  Is there anything stopping you?  If so, repeat this process to remove any limitations you might have to get to your goal.

So, what is the first thing you can do right now?

Move forward and prosper.

Have a little mischief in your life!

On stairs

Think about it.

Tonight is Mischief Night!

According to holidayinsights.com, Mischief Night is, “an evening when people traditionally participated in harmless (please) mischief. We stress harmless or innocent mischief. Other forms of mischief can lead to big trouble. Even seemingly harmless mischief can be the source of problems.

This night is discouraged by law enforcement organizations. The mischief is sometimes less than funny, and can even lead to vandalism or destructive.

Important: We neither encourage, nor endorse participation in this day. Why risk getting in trouble??

Historically, some common forms of mischief on this has included:

  • Soaping windows
  • Egging houses and cars
  • Tossing a few rotten tomatoes
  • Toilet papering house trees, etc.
  • Knocking on doors, then running away”

However, why not have a little mischief in our own personal lives?  Is there something you have been wanting to do in your life, but have not?  Live a little, if only tonight, and think of how your life would be if you made some changes you wanted to.  It may not be easy and you need to way the pros and cons, but thinking and doing are to separate things.  So, maybe do that ever important step in between and start doing some planning.  If it is something you know you want to do… how about outline the steps backwards?  Start at the end goal.  What did you do right before the goal became true?  What happened before that?  The step before that? The step that happened in order for that step to be taken and so on until you get to the very first step.

If we all stuck with the status quo, life would never be exciting and as a society we would not be where we are today.  So, be a little mischievous in your life and take the first step.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

Tomorrow: It’s Halloween!
