National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day.

Yesterday was National Chip and Dip Day.  I guess I was having too many chips and forgot to post about the day.
Today is National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day.  I guess we are on a food kick around here.  But we can learn a couple of things about ourselves from chocolate covered raisins:
  1. Our exterior can attract a lot.
  2. Our inner also means a whole lot.
  3. What is inside will attract some people and turn others away.
  4. The full package is what makes us who we are and what attracts others.
  5. In different situations we can change, but intention and authenticity is what counts.

Just like the chocolate covered well-anything, we have a lot to offer the world.  Be confident in who you are and what you offer and you can only attract what you desire.

Cheers!

Tomorrow: International Waffle Day!  Perfect for a Sunday brunch!

Roots and Chocolate!

Chocolates

Eat it...

Yesterday was Roots Day and today is National Chocolate Day!

Yesterday, I missed Roots day.  I would have loved to mention that it is one of my favorite brands of clothing, how I love root beer, and how nothing is better than winter root vegetables.  However, I was waiting for the arrival of my sister and her family.  Nothing screams the holidays like three boys under the age of six!  Anyway, I was with my parents and preparing the arrival and the day of roots just slipped away.  I guess my roots (my family) kept me away.

But, I’m back today for National Chocolate Day!  My extended family always celebrates the Christmas Season on Christmas Eve.  Tonight, we gather. like we have since I was born.  So many memories exist, but one comes to memory in reflection of National Chocolate Day.  If you are familiar with Whitman’s Chocolates, you might understand my story.  If not, picture a box of delicious chocolate.  Enter my dad and his sister (my aunt).  Ever year they laugh, discuss, and exclaim rules on how to deal with the Whitman’s.  It is all out of fun, but still comes to the table (and the living room and the kitchen) every year.  Rules such as which ones can be eaten first; if you touch it, you must eat it; and if you bite into it and find out you do not like it, you must finish it and cannot put it back (happens every year).  It is a time-honored tradition to debate the BOX OF WHITMAN’S.  One year I even got a 4-pack box for everyone one just to see if it would help.  It did not.  Instead there was a debate about each person’s box and trades/barters happened.  Tonight we will see what will happen.

My charge today: start a fun tradition with your family or yourself.  Your call on whether or not it involves chocolate. (Of course now I remember the childhood tradition we had in our house with chocolate advent calendars).  But start something new.  Traditions bring great memories and give people something to look forward to each year.

Find something to look forward to and cherish those moments as they happen!

Cover ’em if ya got ’em!

Covered

Smoother it...

Today is National Chocolate Covered Anything.

Whatever it is, cover it in chocolate and make it amazing.  Covering anything in chocolate definitely ups it values.  (I will not even get into my secret stash of chocolate covered gummy bears).  Did you know (or have you ever tried a chocolate covered grasshopper?

But, what if instead of covering our life experiences with chocolate, we choose happiness.  You have choice in everything you do.  So instead of going into something dreadful or scared, go in happy.  It will make all of the difference.

Tomorrow: National Maple Syrup Day.

Almond chocolate

Go ahead...

Happy National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day!

According to holidayinsights.com, “Chocolate is a vegetable, made from cocoa beans. Almonds are good for you, as they help to improve your Cholesterol levels. So, bittersweet chocolate with almonds is goo for you, right!?  On this special day, we will not question this logic…will you?”

Nationalwhateverday.com gives us a little background information: “Bittersweet chocolate is a sweetened form of dark chocolate that does not contain milk in either liquid or dry form.  Bittersweet chocolate is essentially a mixture of chocolate liquor, sugar, cocoa butter, and sometimes vanilla.  Recent studies have revealed certain health benefits  from the regular consumption of small quantities of bittersweet chocolate.  Due to its high cocoa content, dark chocolate is a good source of certain flavonoids — namely epicatechin and gallic acid — that may be protective for the heart.

The almond is a species of tree native to the Middle East and South Asia.  Almond is also the name of the edible and widely cultivated see of this tree.  The fruit of the almond is not a true nut, but the drupe, consisting of an outer hull and a hard shell with the seed inside.  Almonds are known to have health benefits including relief from constipation, respiratory disorders, cough, hear disorders, anemia, impotency, and diabetes.  It also helps in hair care, skin care, and dental care.”

So, it’s a healthy day.  Who would have thunk that bittersweet chocolate with almonds would be good for you.  What else have you been misinterpreting?

Find one thing today to look at in a new way.

National Chocolate Cupcake Day: Choose the details!

National Chocolate Cupcake Day

Yum!

Today is National Chocolate Cupcake Day!  But, as with life, we get to choose what our chocolate cupcake looks like.  Does it have chocolate frosting, vanilla, cream cheese, or simply plain.  Do you add sprinkles?  Chocolate chips?  Is the cupcake chocolate fudge, white chocolate, mocha… because what is inside counts.  Just how we choose our surroundings… were they cooked in paper, foil, or with no liner in a non-stick pan?  Hey, sometimes no matter what precautions we take, the cupcakes might stick.  They might burn.  They might be under-cooked.  However, we get to choose how we react.  Life is choice.

Today, my chocolate cupcake is chocolate fudge, with vanilla brain frosting top, in an aluminum liner and optional sprinkles.

What does your chocolate cupcake look like?

Tomorrow: Evaluate Your Life Day.
